Day School: A Work of Art or Nature -Visual Culture in the Age of Darwin

Ref: C2225756

‘Darwin’s visual intelligence was integral to his discoveries about natural selection and he was interested in visual culture and its contributions to science. In turn, his revolutionary theories can be traced in 19th century artistic production, such as Landseer’s charismatic animal paintings, Monet’s landscapes and Degas’ sculptures. This study day will look at natural history illustrations that inspired Darwin, satire that ridiculed him and art that was influenced by his ideas’.
