The two World Wars excite constant popular interest, but less attention is paid to the years which separated them. If you are interested in finding out more about the history which links these two great conflicts, then this is the course for you.

Course aim

To provide an understanding of the history which links the two great conflicts of the Twentieth Century.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List the key events of European history in the period 1918 to 1939
  • Identify and outline the main consequences of World War 1 and the main causes of World War 2 in Europe
  • Evaluate historical source material of a variety of different kinds

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Most learners find it useful to bring a pen and notepad.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
