This Indian cookery course will take you step by step through key spice ingredients which can be blended to make fragrant combinations which are the basis of delicious Indian dishes. You will discover the skills of how to make a range of dishes that will impress your family and friends. You will also gain knowledge of the origins of these Indian spices that are native to certain regions of Asia

Course aim

To give the students, the skills to be able to prepare and cook a range of Indian dishes

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to use kitchen equipment safely and maintain food hygiene
  • Demonstrate the preparation of key spices
  • Demonstrate how to substitute ingredients for vegetarian and healthier options.
  • Follow recipes with confidence
  • Recognise the variation between different spices and recognise which combinations work and which don’t

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • All the requirements and resources you will need will be discussed at the end of each session, the only items you will need are a notebook and pen for your first session when recipes and ideas will be discussed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • You may look up recipes that you would like to make in the following weeks
