Further Skills in ICT - Level 2

Functional Skills Level 2, will reach the equivalent to a grade A* to C at GCSE meaning you can demonstrate you have mastered everyday ICT. This course will guide you through all of the skills you need to prepare for exams at both levels.

Course aim

This course is for anyone who has experience in using ICT and wish to progress onto a higher level in using ICT. Functional Skills can help you develop the practical skills you need to use technology in life.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Using email software and the internet - teaches you how to use email software to send and receive emails, send attachments and organise your contacts in an address book. You will also look at ways of using the internet effectively and safely.
  • Word processing - you will learn about the different features of word processing software, which can be used to create all kinds of text based documents. You will learn how to create engaging documents using images, tables and other formatting features.
  • Spreadsheets - you will learn how to use spreadsheets to record information, how to complete calculations to analyse your data in more detail and how to present your data using charts and graphs.
  • Presentation - you will learn how to use a presentation software program to create a slideshow with text and images, and expanding at the higher level to also include the use of transitions and animations.
  • Use filtering within Spreadsheet to record larger amounts of data and complete more detailed searches for specific information.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
