This course is suitable for students who wish to learn more about the UK and its customs. We will learn more about the community in which you live. We will learn more about UK geography, education system, health system, the role of local government and the role of national government, British values and everyday interests and conversations.

Course aim

The course aims to provide an overiew of citizenship topices to support people who are new to life in the UK.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Express 3 facts about British customs
  • Recognise and understand key vocabulary on 2 topics
  • Describe the geography of the UK and identify 3 cities on UK map
  • Produce a short text on a given topic using simple sentences

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Please bring pen, paper and a folder.
