The course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills that help you to improve your general health and wellbeing ,also to educate you about different food from around the world learn how they cook it and what type of spices they use. You will improve your geographic know by finding the country on the world globe learn about different cultures Moreover the course will help you to build up self confidence and self esteem throughout activities such as group discussion and group work. Learn about what healthy food to cook in different celebrations such as Christmas,Eid and Ramadan.

Course aim

The course designed to provide skills and knowledge on how to cook healthy food for self ,family and friends to improve self health and general wellbeing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • You will need to talk to a member of staff and do a short activity to make sure the course is right for you. For more information and to book an appointment please call 0300 303 3464
  • This course is for people with little spoken English
  • This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • demonstrate confidence and self esteem through group discussion and communication
  • demonstrate an awareness of health and safety in the kitchen
  • Learn different methods and techniques in cooking ,such as steaming,grilling.
  • understand how to monitor body weight through weight management and develop healthy eating habits as a way of life

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • To work alongside others in the class room to complete a task Or take part in preparation ,cooking and tidying up and cleaning when finished cooking

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • File or folder to keep your recipe and hand outs

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
