Course aim

This follow on course is to provide students with the core skills required to plan and quilt an overall quilt design using previously made blocks and add sashing and borders.

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make a quilt sandwich from a pieced block and use a free machine embroidery foot to quilt a design made with a stencil
  • Accurately measure for sashing and borders and estimate how much fabric will be required to complete the quilt top
  • From the quilt measurements estimate how much fabric will be required for the backing, batting and binding.
  • use stencils to design a quilted border by measuring accurately, repeating and extending pattern designs to fit the border measurements

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
