The Art Class (Knutsford)

This is suitable for people of all abilities with a willingness to try different techniques and subjects in drawing and painting. You will try a variety of materials for subjects ranging from landscape still life , people and animals.

Course aim

A practical art course looking at different media and subjects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Indicate a better use of tone, colour and shade.
  • Demonstrate more confidence in working with a number of different drawing and painting materials.
  • Observe things more accurately when working from real life and pictures.
  • Indicate a clearer understanding of proportion, and perspective where applicable.
  • Participate with others and compare results.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The tutor will demonstrate and provide examples and source material.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Although the tutor will provide starting points and examples, you will mainly use your own materials. You will be informed in advance if you need to bring in things for future lessons.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • A future topic will be discussed before hand to give time for you to collect what you need.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
