Drawing and Painting / Mixed Media Art for Beginners and Improvers

This is a Course for all abilities concerning a structured drawing course for beginners concerning such things as light & shade,proportion,perspective,& colour.This is intended to lead the student towards the more advanced Mixed media Painting (improvers)stages where all manner of media can be selected.Pastel,Water Colour,Acrylic,Oils.Pen ,Ink&Wash,Coloured pencils,Here the student will be encouraged to work on their own projects with one to one tuition.

Course aim

To Develop drawing & Painting skills Imaginative skills,Visual awareness,&Visual memory.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Some early experience of Art might be of some help but is not essential,eg.school.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Plan my ideas better
  • Draw or paint with greater skill than before,
  • Become more visually aware of the world about me.
  • Develop more confidence in my artistic abilities.
  • Develop some imaginative skills & show these in my work.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • Helpful Artistic crit from time to time.

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • We have a small reference library of books ,photographs & magazines for student use.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • a healthy interest in Art.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
