Painting Inspired by Women Artists

Get inspiration from women artists and create your own masterpiece! Develop social awareness on the theme 'Women’s rights are human rights' and the continued imbalance of gender representation within the arts. This is mainly a hands on course during which we will be exploring a variety of painting techniques focusing on principles of composition and different art movements. We will also use PowerPoint presentations and have the opportunity to discuss a number of women artists' life and work.

Course aim

Learn and develop skills in drawing and painting. Build / boost self confidence. Explore and research famous women artists and create own artwork inspired by the research.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain the obstacles experienced by women artists in the past and discuss the relevance of feminism in the art world.
  • Use acrylic paints applying a variety of methods to create texture in 2 and 3 dimensions.
  • Identify and use a variety of colour schemes creating artwork
  • Develop, create and finish one original artwork.
  • Identify artwork by at least 3 women artists

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • Sketchpad or scrapbook 2B pencil and rubber Acrylic brushes, acrylic paints Acrylic paper
