The course is for new starters and more advanced students. Enhance your current skills while acquiring new skills and techniques. The course is open to all whatever your level or expertise .Through personal achievement you will increase your skills, techniques and enjoyment.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to help you enjoy painting and drawing To discover a subject look, see, respond, interpret and evaluate their progress with confidence in both approach and use of chosen medium.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. Through an understanding of "the formal elements" the learner will be able to" see" the natural world and interpret it in their own visual language.
  • 2.With increased confidence and enjoyment the learner will use newly acquired skills and techniques eg. .how to render a range of techniques appropriate to their chosen subject, using brushes suitable for their needs.
  • 3. The learner will be confident to attempt more complex subject matter eg. moving from 2D pattern to 3D creating an image which has both space and volume.
  • 4. The learner whilst using their "main" medium will be encouraged to explore other related media such as oil-pastel or soft pastel.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to bring your chosen medium, and source images for initial discussion.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
