Preparation for the Driving Theory Test

Are you interested in Driving in UK? Do you want to pass your Driving Theory test at the first attempt? Perhaps you are planning on getting a job where you need to be able to drive or you may just want to learn how to drive in order to ease your transport problems and be more independent. If you say yes to any of these questions, this course is for you. You will learn from an experienced tutor with over 4 years’ experience in teaching this course. The test consists of 50 questions and you must get 43 correct in order to pass. We will help you gain the knowledge to correctly answer questions about hazard perception, road signs, safety margins etc. A range of teaching styles will be used such as question and answer, quizzes, worksheets and online practice tests to make the learning experience more enjoyable.

Course aim

This course aims to give students the knowledge and confidence to apply for and pass the Driving Theory test.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
  • Students need a level 2 qualification in English to join this course
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Appreciates how the Driving Theory test works and what it involves
  • Appreciates how and where to book the Driving Theory test
  • Pass at least two practice tests prior to applying for the test
  • Demonstrate the computer skills necessary to take the test
  • Be able to book a test and pass it

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
