The course is designed to introduce students to the creative processes of research, design, making and evaluation of their finished artwork. Encouraging critical awareness, development of artistic skills and promoting confidence and wellbeing. Students will have opportunities to participate in a public art exhibition, in a local art gallery and in displays within the community venue Galloways.

Course aim

To engage visually impaired students in creative art projects with an emphasis on tactile awareness. The aims being; participation in a public art exhibition, at a local art gallery and displays within the community venue Galloways.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. To explore three creative art and crafts techniques and processes.
  • 2. To demonstrate knowledge by application of art skills to create artworks.
  • 3. To participate in a group art exhibition in an art gallery and in the community venue Galloways.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • Protective clothing is advised as some art materials can stain clothing.

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
