The best thing about dancing is that you get to have fun whilst getting all the health benefits of a good workout. On this course we shall look at how dance can help to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Providing the learner with an understanding of the anatomy and developing the most effective method of dancercise to suit the learners needs. The course will encourage the learner to participate in tutor led activities and research into specific styles of dance. These will be chosen for there particular aerobic styles and attention to posture, balance etc. The group will participate in community performances, and collaborate with community groups throughout the year.

Course aim

To provide the learner with an understanding of the health benefits of dance and be able to apply it to their own lifestyle. Regular dancing can be great for losing weight, improving posture and muscle strength, and beating stress.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is suited to the disabled learner.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • The learners will research into the dancers anatomy using primary and secondary sources.eg, books, dvds, ICT, using smart devices etc.
  • The learners will present the research using a variety of different methods including promoting literacy and English language, maths and ict in order to support discussion and critical analysis. Evidence to be recoded via a workbook and video.
  • The learner will work part of a team to develop a specific area of research using a dance style set by the tutor as their theme . This research will help to provide the basis for a creative performance.
  • The learner will participate in the devising and rehearsal process by planning, using timed targets and specific outcomes to be given with every new project undertaken by the group.
  • The learner will participate in a group or individual performances which will be presented in public. Specific dates to be arranged. We shall aim for the end of each academic term

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
