The Creative Perfectionist

Based on solid research we develop our understanding of how we remove the barriers to creativity with warmth and compassion. We explore and test methods to support communication, resilience and a stronger sense of self. The course is available for those who wish to develop their creativity for employment or leisure but feel held back by unrealistically high standards or fear of making mistakes.

Course aim

This course addresses the questions; how can we unlock our creativity? How do we sustain creative effort and how do we engage with others to build skills and explore the potential to work in the creative industries?

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • The course is suitable for those who are intent on actively developing their creativity in any media.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Define Perfectionism as it applies to you as an individual and understand how it impacts upon your creativity
  • Understand the concept of self compassion and be practised at applying techniques to support compassion
  • Present your work so that its' values can be understood by your chosen audience or customer
  • Use communication techniques to build mutual respect, trust and understanding.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
