The Art Class (Knutsford)

This is suitable for people of all abilities, beginners or more experienced with a willingness to try new techniques and approaches in drawing and painting. You will explore a variety of media for subjects ranging from landscape, still life , people and animals. You can also develop your own ideas.

Course aim

To share the enjoyment of art by looking at aspects of what we see around us and to develop techniques in different materials to produce pleasing work.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • For anyone willing to try and share ideas.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Work more confidently with my own ideas.
  • Demonstrate a better understanding of tone, colour and shade.
  • Apply and use art materials more confidently.
  • Indicate more knowledge about proportion and perspective from observation.
  • Look at the visual world around to gather inspiration and ideas.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Learners can do extra work in their own time if they wish. Teaching will involve demonstrations, showing examples and providing starting points.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Individual help and tuition during the lesson.

What else do I need to know?

  • Tutor will provide some materials and starting points, subjects etc. but learners will mostly provide their own

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Future topics will be agreed to before hand giving time to collect information and materials to be used.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
  • Hopefully continue to show and interest and strive to work independently to develop your own ideas
