A friendly and relaxed writing group. The first half- of each session is devoted to reading the pervios weeks writing Homework, the second our consists of an in-class writing exercise that leads into that weeks Homework

Course aim

To develop Creative Writing skills.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Write an interesting and thoughtful poem.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the 'nuts and bolts' of a good poem.
  • Write a 50 word story.
  • Form and develop ideas for my writing using techniques learned in class.
  • Write a longer 1,000 word short story.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Homework each week is based on the class exercise from that week. Homework most normally consists of the creation of a new piece of writing i.e a short story or poem.

What else do I need to know?

  • Bring pens and paper.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
