The Art Class (Congleton)

This suitable for people of all abilities , beginners or more experienced with a willingness to try techniques and approaches in drawing and painting. You will try a variety of media for subjects ranging from landscape , still life, people and animals. You can also develop your own ideas.

Course aim

To share the enjoyment of art by looking at aspects of what we see around us and to develop techniques in different materials to produce pleasing work.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Indicate a better understanding of tone, colour and shade.
  • Demonstrate more confidence in working with a number of different drawing and painting materials.
  • Observe things more accurately when working from real Life subjects or pictures.
  • Indicate an improved understanding of proportion and perspective where applicable.
  • Participate with others and compare results.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Teacher will use demonstrations , show examples and provide source material if needed to suit each learner. Individual help will be given during the lesson.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You may perdue a topic of your own choice where the tutor will help you to achieve your aims.

What else do I need to know?

  • Although the tutor will provide materials and examples etc. to work from you will mainly use your own materials and you will be informed well in advance what you need .You will be encouraged to use camera/phone to collect ideas to work from.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • A future topic will discussed with you before hand to give you time to prepare. References to artists past and present will be made.

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
