join our progressive group of Learner Artists,learning sound drawing &painting skills in a variety of media such as watercolour,pastels, & crayons,pen & ink,coloured pencils.acrylic or oils.We also study theory & drawing from observation such as object & still life.portrait & figure.Painting students will be tutored on a one to one basis,working on their own personal projects.

Course aim

To learn sound Drawing & Painting skills in a.variety of chosen media,developing a greater visual awareness & creativity.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • any prior knowledge or some basic understanding of the subject will help.Interest & enthusiasm would be essential.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Draw & paint with greater skill & confidence.
  • Develop personal ideas through any media of choice.
  • Master some basic skills in drawing,tonal,linear,objects in light .& shade be they natural or man made.
  • Demonstrate a greater understanding of proportion,scale & form.
  • Develop a greater & more sensitive visual awareness through working from observation.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time
  • individual one to one instruction as well as group tuition

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • Continual assessment by the tutor with grades C-A in skill & creativity. Information on this being given every few week with any helpful guidance where needed.

What else do I need to know?

  • Sketchbook A3size of cartridge paper(not too thin)A good selection of pencils B soft to H hard ,Graphite Stick,Charcoal sticks(assorted}Note book Coloured pencils.Etc.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • We have a Resource Cupboard For Art books for reference &.photographic material for same.

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
