An active research course looking at and discussing aspects of the Goddess Bridie and her relationship with the local area. It will include a visit to St James's Gardens on 1st February as well as a trip to the Calderstones later in the term. We will discuss persona theories, findings and what they may mean.

Course aim

Through investigation of two local landmarks and their surrounding area discover what may be their meaning while at the same time celebrating their presence. This research may lead to expression through creativity.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the Spring in the Anglican Cathedral Gardens and Calderstones, Calderstones Park.
  • Produce recordings of visits to the Cathedral Gardens. These may be writings, photographs, videos, sketches, artworks.
  • Produce recordings of visits to the Calderstones, Calderstones Park. These may be writings, photographs, videos, sketches, artworks.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • Discussion in class will help us develop our own ideas.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful to bring a camera (telephone is fine) video recorder, sketchbook or notebooks for the trips out.
