Heartbeat is a fun and interactive course involving experiments on how our body works. We will be using our five senses in interesting and dynamic ways to see how well they work and put them to the test in surprising ways.We will be using our sight to distinguish colours and words.Our smell and taste to find various objects and our hearing to distinguish and visualize objects. Students will also be able to use their knowledge of the body to explore the process of breathing and blood circulation.We will actively be debating and questioning the topic so as to empower our students to become active citizens in their own right.

Course aim

This is about our five senses and will include many interesting facts and activities.We will involve students and their knowledge of the subject to explore the process of breathing and blood circulation as well as other interesting body facts.

Who is the course for?

- No skills or experience needed - This course is suitable for beginners and improvers - This course is for people with little spoken English - This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Learn about the uses of coconut oil. 2. Learn how to make different natural body products such as body scrubs. 3. Learn about where to buy local natural products 4. Learn how to make natural lip balm. 5. Learn about natural skin care.

How will I know I'm making progress?

- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion - You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions - There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- Nothing else is needed - All materials will be provided - It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

- No pre reading or pre course work is required

What could the course lead to?
