Do you want to improve and develop self awareness and self worth? What better way to do that than learning about health and fitness in a practical and supportive environment. This walking course would be a great opportunity that will lead to a range of outdoor learning activities, helping to build stronger communities.

Course aim

A holistic approach to health and wellbeing, enjoy tutor led, fun group activities, such as learning to stretch, the benefits of exercise, especially walking, diets etcetera, aimed at all participants.

Who is the course for?

- No skills or experience needed - This course is suitable for beginners and improvers - This course is for people with little spoken English - This course is for women only as it is held in a women's centre

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Personal and learning skills development in areas such as communication, problem solving, working with others and thinking skills. Significant contributions to literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing Alternative ways to improve emotional wellbeing and mental health Inclusion and equality Managing cultural and social diversity is central to planning and must be addressed well in advance

How will I know I'm making progress?

- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion - You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- Nothing else is needed - A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

- No pre reading or pre course work is required

What could the course lead to?
