This course will encourage skills improvement through a combination of demonstrations and class exercises. Subjects to be covered will include: portraiture, still life, landscapes, urban architecture and social change, with a strong emphasis on practical exercises.

Course aim

To develop skills through discussion, demonstration, homework and undertaking practical exercises including some field trips.

Who is the course for?

- No skills or experience needed - This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning - You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Confidently use their digital camera in a creative manner 2. Produce a series of images to a high standard 3. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the technicalities involved in digital photography at this level. 4. Independently apply the skills learned to produce excellent images in the photographic genres that interest them. 5. Produce enhanced images using post processing software

How will I know I'm making progress?

- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion - You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.) - You will need to bring a camera (phone, bridge or DSLR), memory cards, charged camera battery, notepad and pen.

Reading and information sources

- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
