This course is aimed at teaching you bread making skills which you can then share with your family and enjoy making freshly baked rolls together which make a tasty part of your lunch. It will give you confidence to go home nd make the bread with your children at home, teaching you valuable baking skills and saving money at the same time.

Course aim

This course is aimed at introducing simple bread making techniques and teaching you how easy it is to make your own fresh crusty bread rolls from scratch. We will also be making breadsticks and dough balls.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make your own bread rolls from scratch with your child following a recipe
  • Follow 3 basic tules of food hygiene - wear an apron, wash your hands thoroughly, tie long hair back
  • Understand the differences between shop bought and home - made bread
  • Learn bread making techniques - hand kneading, proving and shaping fresh dough
  • Understand the importance of weighing and measuring ingredients, using scales and measuring jugs to help embed numeracy skills

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
