This course will provide an opportunity to explore how children grow, develop,learn to communicate and explore various factors which affect the growth and development. It will explore the role of play in a child's development and the importance of planning for activities in childcare settings. Topics covered: - job opportunities in childcare settings - physical, intellectual, language, emotional & social development - how diet, exercise and environment may affect the child's growth and development - the role of play in a child' development
Course aim
This course will help equip you with skills and knowledge needed to start considering a career in Childcare. It will provide an opportunity to explore how children grow, develop and learn to communicate and the role you can play in supporting them.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- List at least two examples of children's physical development for different age groups
- List at least two examples of social and emotional development for different age groups
- Describe how diet and exercise may affect growth and development
- Give at least two examples of play activities to help physical, intellectual, language, emotional & social development
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
