A beginners course in digital photography to help the learner to get to know and master their digital camera. Students will Learn the basic functions of the camera, how to shoot in different shooting modes and how to capture high quality images. Throughout the course, the learner will complete a series of photo projects that will help them to gain confidence in using the camera, they can practice the skills that they have acquired both during the sessions and at home.

Course aim

An introduction to the basic skills of digital photography, how to shoot better photographs and how the digital camera works. Suitable for complete beginners and improvers.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify and understand the parts of a digital camera
  • Use the menus and dials on a digital camera to change settings
  • Take photographs using simple shooting modes
  • Understand composition and how to take the perfect photograph of any subject matter.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • please bring along your own digital camera of your choice
