On this courses students will be encouraged to challenge common stereotypes an consider the common difficulties faced by people with an autism diagnosis as well as the strengths and unique attributes of adults with an autism diagnosis. Students will identify factors that can impact on communication and consider how sensory difference can impact on stress and anxiety.

Course aim

An introduction to understanding autism in adults with the view of challenging common stereotypes and making environments more enabling for people with the diagnosis.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe common difficulties
  • Describe strenghts and unique attributes
  • Identify factors that can impact on communication
  • Identify the impact of sensory differences
  • Identify factors that can impact on stress and anxiety

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
