Chair exercise

This course is suitable for individuals with limited mobility who would like to perform chair based exercise under guidance. Strength, flexibility and balance will be developed by participants, through the use of balls, resistance bands and weights. Participants will only be asked to do what is comfortable for them and will be encouraged to work at their own pace in a safe and friendly environment.

Course aim

This course will enable participants to perform gentle guided chair based exercise to develop flexibility, strength and balance, in a safe and comfortable environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform at least 2 circulation exercises.
  • Engage in at least 2 warm up stretches.
  • Participate in at least 3 strengthening exercises using a resistance band.
  • Use dumb bells to strengthen the upper body.
  • Appreciate the benefits of chair based exercise.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
