The course will enable participates to perform a range of chair based exercises under guidance and in a fun and safe environment. They will only be asked to do exercises they are comfortable to perform. Strength, flexibility and balance will be improved through these exercises by the use of weights, resistance bands and balls. Brain exercises are also undertaken to improve the memory.

Course aim

This course is suitable for those with limited mobility who would like to participate in gentle seated exercise in a safe and comfortable environment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform at least 2 warm up stretches
  • Participate in at least 3 coordination exercises
  • Engage in a seated head to toe workout
  • Undertake at least 3 strengthening exercises using a resistance band.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
  • All materials will be provided
