Course aim

The programme will provide a basic understanding of First Aid including how to approach a casualty safely and CPR

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain why it is important to be mindful of safety when approaching a casualty.
  • Explain how to treat a minor wound with consideration of minimising risk of infection.
  • Identify the role of the First Aider and recognise when further assistance is required.
  • Describe the causes of choking and explain how to deal with a choking casualty.
  • CPR and Putting a casualty into the recovery position.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
