Seated Exercise for Body and Mind

This course is to support those with limited mobility in undertaking a series of seated exercises. It will demonstrate how to warm up and cool down, as well as a range of exercises to assist with movement and strengthening muscles. The course also includes a number of 'brain games' to help with memory, co-ordination and focus and these include puzzles, music quizzes and picture activities. The sessions are fun and interactive and are done to music, they take place in a safe environment and will have a positive benefit to individuals.

Course aim

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with support to perform a range of seated exercises which will improve movement and strength.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Perform a range of upper body exercises
  • Undertake a range of lower body exercises
  • Exercise using a resistance band
  • Exercise using a ball
  • Exercise using weights

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing and ensure you have access to water.
