Tudor History for LDD

The course will look at Great Britain during Tudor times. Subjects covered will include the War of the Roses, the reformation of religion in the country and the life of Henry VIII and his six wives. The course will also cover the reign of Elizabeth I and how the Tudor monarchs had differing views on religion throughout their reigns. Please note, this course is for people for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Course aim

The course will act as an introduction to the Tudor period of rule in Great Britain. The course will cover the period 1485 to 1603 and will cover the reigns of Henry VII to Elizabeth I.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Have a basic knowledge of the reign of the Tudors.
  • Know about the reformation of religion that took place during the Tudor period.
  • Gain a knowledge of what life was like during the Tudor period
  • Understand how Portsmouth and Southsea were connected to the Tudor period
  • Have improved self confidence and an improved feeling of well being.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • The course will include several field trips to places of interest that relate to the course e.g. Southsea Castle

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • Students will have a time line that they will add to during the duration of the course.

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
