Healthy Summer Snacks and Meals

The aim of this course is to introduce you and your family to a wide range of healthy nutritious summer snacks and meals. We will be replacing the ready meals and take aways with much healthier home made alternatives to all of your favourite dishes. The course will encourage you to cook more and teach you about how much money you can save by making more meals from scratch. There will be lots of practical activities to try as well as tasty food to eat.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to introduce you to a range of healthy nutritious and easy to make summer snacks and meals. We will be discussing and making lots of new tasty recipes that will be of great health benefit to you and your family.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Follow and complete a new recipe from scratch
  • Try at least one new ingredient each week
  • Name the 3 basic rules of food hygiene
  • List 5 fruits and vegetables that you will aim to include in your weekly diet
  • Make a summer smoothie with your child, choosing the ingredients and working together as a team

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
