This course is to improve your English comprehension and knowledge of British culture through reading , writing and speaking.

Course aim

To increase knowledge of British culture and customs through Reading, writing and speaking and discussion

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • This course is for people with little spoken English

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • write my name and address from memory
  • describe the inside of my kitchen using 3 adjectives
  • read and spell 5 directions seen in a supermarket

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • you will be expected to enter into full debates with other students

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • every session will include discussion about work in progress

What else do I need to know?

  • please bring paper or a small book, pencils, pens and a file to keep papers safe. A dictionary will be helpful
