Family cookery on budget is a practical cookery course which will focus on showing you how to cook delicious meals from scratch while being mindful of cost, budget and health. A range of family friendly tasty meals will be prepared in class for you to take home and share with the family. Back to basics cookery skills will be encouraged and you will be able to create a range of healthy meals to suit the family without going over budget.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to provide you with a brief introduction to the benefits of making healthy, budget friendly meals from scratch to feed the family well as well as giving you fresh new ideas and kitchen inspiration.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make new healthy rides from scratch
  • Follow good food hygiene within the classroom
  • Understand the benefits of making food from scratch
  • List 5 healthy nutritious family meals that could be added to your weekly menu

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

  • All materials will be provided
