Learning new skills is recommended as one of the ways to keep your mind active and healthy during your retirement. Keeping an active mind is thought to reduce your chances of developing dementia in old age.Learning how to use a tablet or your mobile phone, together with the internet will open you up to a whole new world of communication and sharing.

Course aim

Learning basic skills in ICT by learning how to use a tablet or mobile phone together with the internet and downloadable applications will open you up to a whole new world of communication and sharing

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use the phone's basic features e.g. home, back, menu, settings.
  • Use built in apps e.g. phone, contacts, messaging.
  • How to send an email from your phone.
  • How to take and share photos.
  • Creating a word document.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
