Practise your English through activities and exercises which will help both: to improve it and to help your child with their school's literacy homework or practise English at home.The grammatical structures to be practised will be some of those proposed in the Literacy Primary Curriculum KS2. Some of the topics covered to practise those structures will be : Phonics/Sentence building/Parts of the sentence/Present,Past and Future tenses.

Course aim

To provide practise of English through activities and exercises which will help both: to improve your English and to help your child with some of their possible school's literacy homework or practise English at home.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • E1 at least is desirable and recommended to grasp and/or understand the course topics.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Follow a short narrative on a familiar topic /or experience e.g. parents’ evenings, appointments.
  • Read and recognise simple sentence structures such as noun, verb, adjective and adverb word order.
  • Recognise at least five words, signs and symbols.
  • Recognise the letters of the alphabet in both upper and lower case and by using phonics.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
