An informal way of improving fitness level, toning, releasing stress and making new friends in addition to learning new skills of belly dance.

This course is run by the WEA, working in partnership with East Surrey College delivering Adult Learning across the East Surrey area. This is a fee paying course. If you are in receipt of an income related benefit you may be entitled to free tuition.

Course aim

Explain a brief history of belly dance and the key principles of this form of art. Introduction to a variety of steps and belly dance moves.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learn new skills
  • Demonstrate range of moves and steps.
  • Create a sequence of steps and moves as part of choreography.
  • Briefly describe the history of the art of belly dance.
  • Participate in the annual dance show.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Verbal feedback and demonstration.

What else do I need to know?

  • Comfortable clothes. Suitable dance shoes. Belly dance hip scarf. Bottle of water.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful

You can enrol online if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2017
