Job Prospects using IT

Over 12 weeks this course will focus on students identifying short and long term career goals; creating/updating CVs and covering letters; using the Internet and Universal Job Match to search for jobs.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to give students an opportunity to identify career prospects, including updating CVs and covering letters, as well as helping with their job hunting skills and using Universal Job Match.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify at least 1 short term and 1 long term career goal.
  • Create or update a CV tailored to a specific job.
  • Create a covering letter tailored to a specific job.
  • Select at least 2 Internet based job hunting sites.
  • Create a weekly job hunting plan.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • Students will be encouraged to continue their job searching activities at all times.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • Bring along any existing CVs and/or cover letters together with Universal Job Match login information.
