Drawing and Painting Skills

This course is open to all (including those with disabilities), but offers an excellent introduction to the techniques of drawing and painting. The projects include: drawing techniques, working with colour, landscape painting and still life/portraiture and abstract design.

Course aim

To provide those who enjoy drawing and painting, including complete beginners as well as improvers, with the opportunity to complete a number of exciting projects in drawing and painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Produce an abstract design using a range of colours and shapes.
  • Produce a portrait or still life drawing or painting.
  • Produce a landscape drawing or painting using a range of techniques and colours.
  • Experiment confidently with art techniques for enjoyment.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • Progress to a course with another provider
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation

  • are paying the standard fee or are on any of the qualifying benefits

  • have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
