Exercise to Music (Reaching Out)

The course will introduce basic movements in exercise to music, with the addition of Tai Chi and Pilates for balance and strength. It is aimed at all levels of fitness, with the emphasis on fun and safety for all participants. The addition of equipment, ie hoops, soft balls and bean bags promotes group work and additional skills. The music is a variety of dance tracks, soft melodies and relaxation sounds which add to the diversity and gives extra interest with different activities.

Course aim

To introduce students to basic exercise movements, including mobilisation of joints and stretching. Tai Chi and Pilates is included to improve balance and co-ordination.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Work on my own.
  • Balance with (or without) support.
  • Stretch limbs unaided.
  • Remember some of the Tai Chi movements.
  • Know some ways to relax.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • The tutor will keep an eye on body alignment throughout the classes to ensure that every movement is safe and effective. The tutor will encourage and adapt the course if there are any particular requirements for individual students.
