Day School: Landscape Painting, a further view

In last years day school we looked at the development of landscape painting from the Renaissance to the 19th century,seeing how changing attitudes to nature and the environment shaped ideas about landscape painting.This day school will continue with the development of landscape painting from the Impressionists to the modern day. we will examine how historical and social changes - such as two world wars - influenced artists attitudes to the natural world. we will also trace the artistic changes that affected how artists interpreted ideas about landscape.

Course aim

To explore landscape painting in the 19th and 20th centuries

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • describe how artistic styles of landscape painting developed at the time
  • recognise the work of some of the artists
  • relate changing attitudes to nature to the works produced

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • Nothing else is needed
