Cut and piece a pattern to create a garment. This course is ideal if you have completed the Introduction to Dressmaking course of if you have previous experience.

Course aim

Enhance your sewing skills. This is a follow-on course from the Introduction to Dressmaking Course. Put together a garment of your choice.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a garment of your choice
  • Gain confidence with your sewing machine
  • Gain Experience Sewing

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • This course will be led by students requirements. Students are encouraged to request specific topics for inclusion during the course. There is an online classroom for this course, details on first night.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • A suggested 'shopping list' and reading list will be provided. Sewing machine, pattern, fabric, notations etc to finish your project

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • Please let us know in advance if you require a sewing machine to be provided during class.
