The Tudors - Their History Through Art

Ref: C3741481

Illustrated by the paintings of the period, the course will focus on the Tudor dynasty from Henry VII to Elizabeth 1. It will consider the social, political and religious matters that marked each of the five Tudor monarch's reigns and will show how art has contributed to our understanding of key events. It will consider England as a sea-faring nation; its development in trade and industry and the rise of the merchant classes. It will identify the causes of the dissolution of the monasteries; the establishment of the church in England and what could be described as Henry VIII's brexit. Finally, it will asses the 'glorious age' of Elizabeth 1 which brought Tudor history to an end.
