Experimenting with colour theory, symbolism and abstraction in simple exercises. Using the techniques learnt to make an expressive abstract painting in Acrylic in the afternoon. No painting or drawing experience required - techniques learnt are useful for all levels and can be applied to other mediums . Basic materials and equipment provided: there will be a charge of £2 towards materials. Including: • Colour theory : choosing colours • Colour and shape symbolism :creating mood • Composition • Using a photo or object as a reference for abstraction • Make a final painting in Acrylic

Course aim

Making an abstract painting in acrylic through experimentation .

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify complementary and harmonious colours
  • Use colour and shape to symbolise mood
  • Take an image and simplify it to create an abstracted image .

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • Basic materials and equipment provided: there will be a charge of £2 towards materials. Students may bring their own photograph to make the final piece of work Please wear an apron or old clothes .
