The Glasgow Boys and the Bloomsbury Group

Ref: C3741444

The course will explore several small and loosely associated groups of artists working at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries in this country, whose work embraced the exciting modern developments taking hold in France, Germany and elsewhere in Europe. We will investigate the work of Guthrie, Lavery and Mackintosh in Scotland, together known as the Glasgow Boys or the Glasgow School. In a separate section we will look at the visual arts associated with the Bloomsbury group in London, notably the works of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant and the contribution of Roger Fry and Clive Bell to the story.
