A course which allows a diversity of materials to lead our creativity making artwork to excite and enjoy. Includes applying sweetie wrappers, sandpaper, and loose woven fabrics for texture,introducing vibrant "Brusho "granular paints (supplied) tearing /reassembling old paintings,and using your own imagination.

Course aim

This course aims to stretch your ideas about watercolour painting. You will learn to employ various media along with traditional and new paints to create images still inspired by and using a reference to a visual image, but not simply copying.

What topics will this course cover

- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning - You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning - Collecting possible materials for inclusion in your work, and looking around you spotting subject matter will become a daily activity.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

How will I know I'm making progress?

- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor - You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning - You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions - A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress - One to one discussion with your tutor as your paintings progress each week.

What else do I need to know, do or bring?

- It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.) - Your usual watercolour kit and heavy weight watercolour paper. Brusho paints will be supplied.PVA glue and glue brush. During the course you will need additional found ephemera following class discussion.

Reading and information sources

- No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful - We shall be referencing the work of John Piper, so a visit to the Henley River and Rowing museum John Piper gallery will be informative and inspiring.

What could the course lead to?

- Progress to another WEA course - Progress to a course with another provider - Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member - Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation - Join a local art group. Take part in activities offered by The Cookham Festival or Nordern Farm Centre for the Arts
