A general painting and drawing course with demonstrations, simple exercises and opportunities to work in a variety of materials. Suitable for beginners and those wanting to improve their skills. The course will include painting and drawing landscapes, animals and people in charcoal, pastel and watercolour. Basic materials and equipment will be provided.

Course aim

To provide a broad foundation in the basic skills needed for drawing and painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify harmonious and complimentary colours and use them in an image .
  • Use perspective to show a change in scale over distance .
  • Make an image in the style of an artist (for example Seurat or Degas) and use their techniques to mix colour.
  • More advanced students may suggest personal learning outcomes .

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
