A general painting and drawing course with simple demonstrations and exercises with reference to the techniques of well known artists. With subjects such as landscapes, portraits and still life using pastel, ink and watercolour - try something different every week. Basic materials and equipment will be provided.

Course aim

To provide a broad foundation in the basic skills needed for drawing and painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use mark making to describe texture and pattern
  • Reproduce light and dark tones..
  • Use a colour wheel as a reference to mix a given colour from two or more other colours
  • More advanced students may suggest personal learning outcomes .

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will create a portfolio of work which will help to show your progress .

What else do I need to know?

  • There is a charge of £4.00 per term for paper - all other basic materials and equipment will be provided. Please wear an apron or old clothes.
