The Art of Photography

Ref: C3741266

The course will concentrate on the products of photography - the works, the artists, the subjects rather than the technology. There will be a brief explanation of the invention of the medium and its different formats, notably the daguerrotype, caloptype and digital formats. We will then take a thematic approach, looking at the way photographers have dealt with the portrait, pictures of every day life, reporting the news and making photographs purely as art. Major photographers including Henry Fox Talbot, Alexander Gardner, Yousuf Karsh, Ansel Adams and Annie Liebowitz will all be explored in this varied course.
